“Better Health Begins At The Cell.” -Dr. Bill Cole

(If you have or suspect you might have thyroid related problems go to ColeClass.com and watch the short video (about 23 minutes) that I made for you. It’s free… You don’t even have to give me your email.)

Hey guys, I just had a patient in my office the other day that I got into a discussion with, and when these things happen, I kind of liked to pass them along. I want to talk to you about this because it’s a really common thing because this patient is on statin drugs. A lot of you younger people maybe not be on that right now, but 1 out of every 4 of us over the age of 45 is on a statin drug.

You may not think this relates to your thyroid, but believe me, it does. I’ll describe that in a second, but you know, when I graduated from college back in 1984, 300 was considered an acceptable cholesterol level, and then they lowered it to 250. When they lowered it, they put millions of more people on drugs. Then they lowered it to 200, and millions of more people were put on drugs.

Today it’s down to 150, and believe it or not, I actually have some patients whose doctors are trying to drive them down closer to 100. In all of that time, has it made one bit of difference in strokes and heart attacks? The answer to that is “No”. Not at all. And, yet we have all of these people on medications that are so damaging to their systems potentially. They have to go in and get their blood tested every 3 or 6 months to find out whether the statin drugs are damaging their liver. You see, the way statins work is that they turn off your liver’s ability to make cholesterol. In fact, most people were not aware that about 70% of the cholesterol in our bodies come from our bodies manufacturing that cholesterol, and it doesn’t have as much to do with their diet as people are led to believe.

The reason this matters is because, first of all, it’s not making a difference. Then you factor in that about 60% of everybody who has a heart attack or stroke has normal cholesterol levels. We have to really ask ourselves, “What the heck are we doing? What are we accomplishing here?” These things are really damaging to the body. There are over 900 studies that show the damaging effects of taking a statin drug, and I’m not telling you to stop taking your statin drug by the way. You need to talk to your doctor, but you need to start thinking for yourself maybe, too.

There’s a lot of research out there, a lot of evidence that shows that because it so adversely affects the liver. What does our liver do? It’s our major detoxifying organ. So, if you’re a thyroid patient, you’re dealing with chronic inflammation of the cells, and you have thyroid resistance (thyroid hormone resistance because your cells cannot accept that hormone because they’re chronically inflamed and the receptors on the cell have been chronically damaged), then you can understand how a body cannot process toxins because the liver is under stress may be more inflamed than it should be because of these toxins begin to build up inside of the body.

But, take it a step further. We have talked before about the ability to convert T4 to T3. T4 is what Synthroid and levothyroxine are. You can be taking all of that T4 hormone, but if you can’t convert T4 to T3 effectively, then it’s like not having the gasoline that you need, but not being able to use it. That T3 is the gas getting into the cell giving you energy, helping you lose weight, giving your mind function in a sense of wellbeing, and gut function as well. So, if you have a liver that’s damaged or being stressed because of the fact that you’re taking a drug that’s so toxic to that liver, might that affect your ability to convert T4 to T3? You can see directly how taking that medication can impact your ability to have thyroid hormones and work inside your body.

So, I hope that helps you guys. I got into a lot more with this patient, but you just need to know the fact that there’s no such thing as a drug without side effect. None. It does not exist. And, what that basically means is that every single drug is a toxin. I’m not telling you that there haven’t been lives saved because of medications. Of course, there have been. But to just indiscriminately be taking medications to change a number on a piece of paper, like high cholesterol, with never addressing the reason why that cholesterol may be high, or even whether it actually is high. Whether it actually is a problem. That’s where we wind up creating another set of problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care, guys. God Bless.
