“Better Health Begins At The Cell.” -Dr. Bill Cole

(If you have or suspect you might have thyroid related problems go to ColeClass.com and watch the short video (about 23 minutes) that I made for you. It’s free… You don’t even have to give me your email.)

Hey guys, I had a discussion with a patient recently about sugars. You see, there is a lot of misconception about what actually sugars are. When a lot of people think of sugars, they’re thinking of the sugar jar, right? Where you’re taking that white granular you’re putting it in your drinks or using it in your baking. That is sugar, but when we talk about sugar, we are talking about foods that either contain sugar or that readily turn to sugar.

And this is a major problem in our society, because if you can imagine this, back in the year 1900 the average American family only consumed, it’s estimated, about 5 to 10 pounds of processed sugar per family, per year. So, kind of in you mind’s eye, imagine 1 or 2 five pound bags of sugar, now that was per family. Today, the average American individual consumes, it is estimated between 120 to 150 pounds per person, not per family.

And people are always saying to me, “Well, gosh! That’s not me. We don’t even use sugar in my house.” And then we have to get into this discussion about what is sugar, and where are we finding it, because guys, it is everywhere! Go into a grocery store and look at the list. If it says sugar, or brown sugar, or dextrose, or maltose, or sucrose, or corn syrup, or high fructose corn syrup, this list is huge in terms of these different types of sugars. And that doesn’t even include the artificial sugars which are generally toxic to the system and create even more problems in certain areas than regular sugar.

So, you have to be aware of what sugar is. Then if you take it a step further, and this is where is kind of stinks for people that are ill, particularly thyroid patients, because so many of you have an underlying condition called Hashimoto’s, you may not be aware of it, because a lot of doctors don’t talk about it. But over 90% of North American women who have been diagnosed as thyroid actually have an immune system disease. It’s an autoimmune disease where your immune system has gone so haywire, and it’s beginning to attack and destroy the cells of your thyroid.

Those patients can even become really sensitive to otherwise healthy sugars, what we call God food, man food type stuff, right? Even the stuff that God gave us from the beginning of time can be high in sugar that will drive up inflammation in a sick individual. It’s not that God created a problem. It’s just that our bodies have become such a problem that even healthy foods at that point can drive this inflammation in our body.

So, we have to be aware of what sugars really are. Like when you eat white flour, do you think that that’s not sugar? It is. Even any kind of grains, four seconds after they touch your lips begin the process a breaking down into sugar in you body. That doesn’t mean that whole grains can’t be healthy, but in certain individuals, particularly what I’ve described here with Hashimoto’s, many, many, many women do not do well with grains of any kind in their body, at least until we can turn that immune response down or turn it off.

And so, sugar that is in foods, or foods rather that turn to sugar are going to potentially be a problem too. Just be aware of that. Just understand that if you’re really looking to lower the sugar level in your body, then you need to be aware of those different factors.

I hope this helps.

Take care, guys. God bless.
